My first Christmas

Sophie has now enjoyed her first Christmas. She was very good with not destroying the Christmas tree despite it being up since early December, and she used the presents under the tree to climb on rather than try to open. Her favourite present under the tree was the amazon box sent by her cousins Jo, Jac and Marty. It was the first thing she used to stand up by herself. She also loved opening and closing the flaps of the box all the time. She liked the presents inside too, but the box kept her entertained for such a long time!

As a result of the amazon box she is now standing up at every oportunity, and now getting up using the sofa, coffee table, TV table, fire guard, baby walker and whatever else she can  climb up on. She hasn't quite learnt how to get back down again so she'll quite often stand up at the TV and then cry as she is stuck.

On Christmas day our  friends came for dinner and brought Sophie's friend William to play and join us and Uncle Matt. William and Sophie had a nice time together playing with each others toys.

We didn't open presents until nearly midday as Sophie's routine is to go back to bed for a nap not long after breakfast, and with all the dinner preperations being done in the kitchen it was hard to fit in present unwrapping. After quite a long time of Sophie fighting her afternoon nap, she came back downstairs and joined in Christmas dinner with everyone except William who was having his nap. She enjoyed some turkey, cranberry, sprouts and other veggies. We've saved her a few more meals worth of food in the freezer so she'll be enjoying Christmas dinner for a while yet!

It was a very exhausting day for her though, despite her naps she was really tired at bedtime, but she couldn't sleep so she came back down for some cuddles before going to bed later than usual.

On boxing day her grandparents and Uncle Rob came to visit which was another exhausting day for Sophie. It's all a bit much opening all these presents and seeing all these people! She did well though and got some really nice things. She especially likes the farmyard that Uncle Rob bought her.

My busy month of December

Forget crawling, walking is what we need to practise!

Not satisified with just crawling, we now have a bay who climbs up onto everything and has even managed a bit of walking with the aid of her Vtech baby walker which she loves! The baby walker has lots of buttons on it which she loves to play with all the time.

She is doing really well at nursery but it's a shame she is so tired when we bring her home in the evening and has to go to bed for an hour to recover! She is eating really well at nursery and enjoying playing with all their toys.

Sophie has just got her first tooth! She didn't suffer too badly with the teething, but she was waking up every few hours through the night which we put down to her being poorly with a bad nose and cough. When she cried it was more like she couldn't get back to sleep because of her cough rather than teething pain.

I had my Christmas party at nursery. Mummy and Daddy dressed me in a really pretty dress. I am looking forward to wearing it again at Christmas. Santa came to my Christmas party and gave me a present and a bag of chocolate buttons.

So now I have my very first tooth I can brush it all by myself!!

Crawling pro!

After a couple of weeks of practice we now have a crawling pro who likes to explore, going from the front room to the kitchen. She is picking up speed!

She had her first day at nursery today and did very well considering she has been feeling a bit poorly for the last few days. She made it until 4pm when she needed some Calpol. She ate all of her food at nursery, came home and had a big sleep then had a load of food. Today on the menu at nursery was Weetabix for breakfast. Morracan Lamb with vegetable cous cous followed by treacle tart and custard for lunch then Jacket Potato for tea. Then when she came home she had a chicken dinner! Considering she has had no appetite for the last few days we were very suprised she ate so much.

Busy social life

With the crawler in action we have had to put a fireguard up. She would always go to the fireplace and try to pull parts of it off. She helped Daddy put it up! She has her own tool box and it came in handy for something!!

Sophie has had a busy weekend socialising. She met up with her friends from the baby massage group and we went to a play centre. Unfortunately it was during her normal nap time so instead of playing she had some sleeping to do! She still had a fun time playing though.

She also attended Cassius' first birthday party which was also at a soft play centre. She had her first taste of ice cream with sprinkles...

Her favourite thing was getting a balloon!

Today she has her first day at the nursery, but it's only for two hours and Mummy will be there too. Then on Friday she will be at nursery without Mummy or Daddy for two hours. She starts nursery properly next week.

Crawler

This is the crawler just a few days into learning how to crawl. She is far from good at it, but still gets to her toy in the end!

another vid to follow of how she is progressing now.

long time no blog

It has been a long while since the last blog post, mainly because every time we try to upload a video it fails!
Last month we went to Paula and Lee's wedding. Sophie was a little star all the way through, and went home at bedtime with Grandma and Grandad while Mummy and Daddy stayed out a bit later
She grabbed a fascinator from the Groom's Mother, doesn't she look sweet?

Sophie had her first bonfire night, which is also her cousin Kelton's birthday. She was wearing the hat that her Grandma had knitted for her. She liked the fireworks and didn't cry at all.

Ooooh fireworks....

But as nice as the fireworks were, she picked up Chickenpox from her cousin Kaden. Poor spotty baby! On the plus side, Mummy brought her a new In the Night Garden toy to play with! She has been not too bad with the pox, just needed to sleep more, and felt a bit grumpy. We were lucky that she caught it before Mummy goes back to work.

Today is Sophie's 8 month birthday. Every month we take a photo of her next to her Piglet. She's getting bigger! Looks like we'll need to lower her cot now as she has just started to climb up on the edge. Look at that smile.... I'm not really poorly!!

Sophie's first holiday

More videos and pictures...

This was last night, we put Sophie back in her door bouncer as we've not done it for ages. She loves standing, so the bouncer is lots of fun for her. She even worked out how to bounce a little bit!

We've recently come back from our holiday to north Nottinghamshire, where we had amazing weather! It was so hot, it was like being abroad. Luckily Sophie slept through the night still despite it being so warm. Also, she had caught a cold from her friend William, but she still slept well despite that too.

Here is a video of her on the swings. She loves it!

Packing for our holiday...

Walking on our first day of holiday. It was the only day it rained, but it was still fairly warm. We had to shelter her from the wind and the rain. Normally she would have a little sleep in the carrier, but she insisted on staying awake for the entire walk. Once we got home, she was exhausted and had a quick feed before having a nap.It then started raining torrentially! We had got home with minutes to spare otherwise we would have been soaked.

We went to an indoor gold simulator on one of the days. The babies enjoyed a roll about on the floor, chasing a Pepsi bottle and eating a beer mat. They're easily pleased!

Mummy and Emma went to Sundown Adventure Land with the babies. It is a mini themepark for children under 10 years old. Despite the babies being quite young still, we really wanted to go. We had a really great time, and can't wait to go again when they're a bit older.

Riding on a bouncy see-saw thing in a country park

On the last day we went on a boat ride down the river Trent. The weather was still amazing, and it was nice being on the boat, especially as we got a bit of a breeze as we went.

It was all a bit exhausting for Sophie who had a little sleep on the boat...

We had a brilliant holiday, but it went so quickly. We were so lucky with the weather and the cottage we stayed in was gorgeous and spacious enough for the babies.

And finally, this was the video we tried to upload for the last post... it is her new game in her shiny new Ikea highchair. Look at the anticipation in her eyes!!

Clear out of the Camcorder

Daddy brought this home from his travels.  Its Stanley the Snail, Sophie goes on one at a baby group, so when Daddy saw this he got it for her.  Look at her face!

We should have more videos but they wont upload for now... so we'll try again another time.
We're off on holiday for a week, so will probably have more after then.

Hindu wedding, Northampton Scarecrows and Olympic Torch

It has been a busy old time for Miss Sophie recently. Despite not yet having any teeth come through yet, her teething symptoms have stopped for the last week, after four weeks of horrible crying and being miserable all the time.

She is about a month into weaning and now enjoying a lot of food. She is a little piglet most of the time and suprises us how much she eats. She had a week or so where she was off food totally, but she was feeling under the weather that week so not suprising really.

Sarah had her 30th birthday party, with a 70s theme, and we had to risk interfering with Sophie's routine so that we could go. She didn't get much sleep and for the following week was a little terror as she was tired, and not feeling very well, but it was nice for her to be involved in the party.

This weekend we went to Bhavin and Nimisha's wedding in Northampton which meant buying a pretty Sari for Mummy and a gorgeous dress for Sophie. Sophie was in a lovely mood all day and enjoyed plenty of cuddles from friends.

We quite like this family picture:

On the way home we stopped off at a Scarecrow festival in the village we were staying in, there were apparently 200 scarecrows in the village, a lot of them were really good! It was lovely weather and it was nice strolling around looking at them all. If we had more time it would have been good to stop for a cake and cup of tea, but we wanted to get home in time for bedtime for Sophie.

These Mr Men scarecrows were pretty good:

 And Peppa Pig scarecrows....

The scarecrow festival was made even better by the fact the Olympic Torch was there on display in the local school and they were allowing people to have their picture taken with it. Sophie squealed in delight as she got to feel the torch! The picture shows how happy she is!

I like eating

Sophie's teething problems have been much less after 4 days of screaming, it is now just the occassional whine.

Meanwhile she has been enjoying her food, but seems to be extra hungry these days and demanding more food and milk and been getting up in the night for milk more than normal.

So far mainly been on baby rice, baby porridge, carrot, carrot and swede, marrow and a tiny bit of banana. We're trying to start on the veggies before the fruit, so we've got some spinach to try, then maybe peas, sweet potato and then onto the sweet stuff!

Above and Below: Enjoying first taste of carrot

Above and Below: Marrow before and after!! She sneezed a few times whilst eating her marrow, which we had made a bit watery so it went everywhere!!

I'm not really teething!

Well these last few days have been hell! Sophie has been screaming pretty much off and on for the last week or so as her first teeth are coming through.  Nothing seems to stop it permanently but distractions, sometimes Calpol and Anbesol can help.  Before this video she had been screaming hysterically, but you'd never know! And shortly after she was hysterical too.

Sophie's first food adventure

Poor Sophie has either been teething recently or has been wanting some solid food already, or possibly both. She's been quite grumpy for the last few days and whilst Calpol gives some temporary relief, she has still been chomping down on toys and fingers and trying to eat everything in sight.
We have tried her with some baby rice today, and went down very well.

We like the little smile that she gave after her first few spoonfuls!

We will try the baby rice for a few more days and then onto more exciting meal creations!

The Start of Something New....

Righto, well sometime ago Andrea had her own blog, but it fizzled out after a while.  Now its the start of something and this blog is here to show you the adventures of Miss Sophie as she goes about growing up, mostly from the perspective of a grumpy young man!

We have missed a bit though as this blog is only starting now, so here is some potted highlights from the last 4 months.

This is the girls laughing and squealing the other night before bed.....where are my ear plugs.

My first Curry, a biranyni and Chicken Tikka Bhuna yum yum. She wasn't really eating it, but it always seems to the case that she is fine sat by herself until the food arrives and then she wants attention!

My first time at a beach, we went to Sacrborough. Daddy was working over there, and after he finished we went to the beach.

One of my favourite but scary toys, my activity centre.  I'm not as scared of it any more! I like playing with it now!
